Practical Hygiene for Bar/Cellar, Kitchen and Food Service staff

Practical Hygiene is a training programme developed for use by any organisation carrying out catering activities. The aim of the programme is to provide an option for food hygiene awareness training that moves away from the ‘blanket’ approach of training everyone through, for example, a basic food hygiene course (Level 2), to a more custom built package which aims to cover topics in more detail and with more relevance to each job function.

Sentient have developed food safety training workbooks that are specific to the job roles of

  • Bar/Cellar Work
  • Kitchen
  • Food Service

Each Food safety training pack contains your basic induction training solution for one employee working in one of these areas.

Each food safety training pack contains the following

  • Tutor guide
  • General work book,
  • Bar/Cellar or Kitchen or Food Service specific work book,
  • Built in tests and model answers,
  • Exam questions and answers,
  • Training records and certificate.

The tutor guide helps a manager/supervisor administer the training and guide staff through the programme. It has four sections and contains all the information you need to start your self-study food hygiene awareness training programme in your business.

General work book - Packed with humorous, relevant cartoons and practical learning activities the workbooks are easy reading and will help anyone learn what they need to know about food hygiene awareness. The General work book is completed by all employees after which the relevant job specific work book is tackled.

Job specific workbooks – go into more detail about the particular hygiene issues that need to be understood and addressed in each of the job roles (bar/cellar or kitchen or food service) Activities and quizzes guide employees through typical food hygiene situations that they need to be aware of in their particular role.

Activity model answers contain tutor support and give typical answers you should expect the staff member to provide for each of the practical activities included in the workbooks. Answers will vary from business to business as the activities are designed to relate to the place of work and encourage staff members to find out how it operates. The typical answers supplied are, in most cases, only a guide to the Tutor.
