OUR REGULATORS:

We provide legal advice and Commercial Legal Expenses Insurance and are authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Reg No 49116.

Although Eatons are not authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority, we are included on the register maintained by the FCA so that we can carry on insurance mediation activity, which is broadly the advising on, selling and administration of insurance contracts.  This part of our business, including arrangements for complaints or redress if something goes wrong, is regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.  The register can be accessed via the FCA website at www.fca.org.uk

The Law Society is a designated professional body for the purposes of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 but responsibility for regulation and complaints handling has been separated from the Law Society's representative functions.  The Solicitors Regulation Authority is the independent regulatory body of the Law Society.

COMPLAINTS PROCEDURE:

If you have a complaint or are unhappy our service then you should contact our Managing Partner, Graeme Brown (graeme.brown@eatons-solicitors.co.uk) who has overall responsibility for all matters and who will be pleased to assist. We will try to resolve any problem quickly and operate an internal complaints handling system (a copy of the procedure is available on request) to help us resolve the problem between ourselves. If for any reason we are unable to resolve the problem between us, then you have a right to complain to the Legal Ombudsman who can be contacted on 0300 555 0333 or enquiries@legalombudsman.org.uk within 6 months.

FRAUDULENT EMAILS:

We are aware that fraudsters can now target people purporting to be their solicitors. Such emails or letters may appear to be authentic but the email address would be incorrect. Such Fraudsters have been known to send emails to client's notifying them of a change in bank details so that the client inadvertently, sends their funds to the fraudster's bank account.

In addition, Fraudsters have been known to purport to be an official body but mention a solicitors firm to appear more authentic. Again, this is not something that Sentient or Eatons would be involved in and caution should always be taken in response to such communications.

In light of the above examples, we would advise that:

  • We would never notify a change of our bank details via email.
  • We recommend that you do not transfer any money to us without first checking the account details with us in person as we will not accept responsibility if you transfer funds to an incorrect account
  • Any email sent outside of working hours should be treated with great caution;
  • If you have any suspicions, you should contact us by telephone on 03456 446006 to discuss these before you take any action.
