Sentient provide pragmatic health and safety advice to employers. Our locally based Health and Safety Consultants help keep employers legally compliant and reduce risks to employees. All our health and safety advice has a strong focus on keeping employees safe while providing tangible benefits to the business.

There is a legal requirement for any employer with 5 employees or more to comply with health and safety legislation. This includes but is not limited to making sure that written health and safety policies and procedures are in place, that risk assessments are carried out and that employees have received adequate health and safety training.

Sentient help employers by providing health and safety advice to ensure that appropriate policies, procedures and training is in place and that adequate records are kept to satisfy an inspection. Failure to do so can have severe implications for the business and may lead to prosecution.

 In the latest year (2014/15) HSE:

  • prosecuted 650 cases, with at least one conviction achieved in 606 cases, a conviction rate of 93%;
  • prosecuted 1,058 offences, resulting in 905 convictions, a conviction rate of 86%;
  • prosecutions led to fines totalling £16.5 million, an average penalty of £18,198 per offence.

In addition in the latest year (2014/15)  Local Authorities

  • prosecuted 78 cases, with a conviction secured in 76 cases, a conviction rate of 97%;
  • prosecuted 153 offences, resulting in 142 convictions, a conviction rate of 93%;
  • prosecutions led to fines totalling £2.8 million, an average penalty of £19,962 per offence.

You and your employees, managers and directors could face criminal prosecution if you don’t have written Health and Safety documents including:

  • A Health and Safety Policy
  • Health and Safety Risk Assessments

Having the correct Health and Safety processes and documentation in place reduces risk of prosecution and the financial and reputational costs associated with that. With health and safety advice from Sentient, you will not only meet your immediate obligations quickly and efficiently, you also access an ongoing safety monitoring and advisory service to make sure you don’t fall into the same trap again.
