HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We at Sentient wish you all a Happy New Year and here’s to a prosperous and successful 2014.

At this time of year, it is often a good opportunity to look at what was good and bad about 2013 (no cricketing comments please) and to set some objectives for 2014 that consolidate what we are good at and improve those where we fall a bit short.

With that in mind, setting some New Year Resolutions may help 2014; and may we make the following suggestions:

Health and Safety

I will ensure that:

  • All machinery / equipment will be tested and checked when required
  • The fire alarm is regularly tested and fire evacuation practices are carried out
  • First aid kits are complete and the first aiders are appropriate trained
  • All risk assessments are carried out and any recommendations implemented
  • A monthly health and safety inspection is carried out and a record of what is found kept and…
  • An action plan to remedy any defects is devised and implemented
  • Any person involved in manual handling has had appropriate training
  • All staff have an awareness of Health and Safety matters that affect them

Food Safety

I will ensure that:

  • All kitchen personnel know the contents of the Food Safety Management Systems / procedures
  • That the Food Safety Management System is up to date and available at all times
  • Temperature checks are carried out daily and are recorded
  • All records are kept up to date
  • All staff are appropriately trained

Employment/HR

I will ensure that:

  • All employees have been issued with a Principal Statement of Terms and Conditions of Employment
  • The content of our Employee Handbook is applicable and the rules / procedures are implemented/followed
  • Any training needs identified as part of an annual appraisal are organised
  • Advice is obtained (from Sentient by Sentient HR clients) before taking any action such as disciplinary action

THOUGHTS FOR 2014

The First World War started 100 years ago in 1914 and therefore this year should also be a time of reflection and remembrance of those who lost their lives, so we can live ours.
