Site Waste Management Plans (SWMP)

As you know Sentient specialises in Employment and Health & Safety Law and one of our major challenges is to keep up to date with legal developments in these areas.

Our sources of new information also include details of other complimentary legal areas – and a case in point is the new Environmental Legislation relating to Waste Management.

Those employers involved in relevant construction activities should be aware of the Site Waste Management Plans Regulations 2008 (S1 2008 No 314) that come into force on 6th April 2008 making it a legal requirement for construction projects in England costing over £300,000 (excluding VAT) to have a Site Waste Management Plan.

Further information can be obtained from www.netregs.gov.uk

‘A simple guide to site waste management plans’ (pdf) has been produced by NetRegs (Government Website) which can be downloaded here.

The Regulations can be downloaded here  www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2008/pdf/uksi_20080314_en.pdf
